Evan Tipton, Esports Advisor, for NGame Esports talks about the BoomTV and American Video Game League transaction.
Esports entertainment platform BoomTV recently acquired collegiate production company American Video Game League (AVGL). What impact will this have on esports?
Establishing a solid fan base is essential to growing in the esports industry. I believe that Mixer has a stronger chance as of now to influence the industry versus BoomTV. If they were looking to become a fan favorite like Twitch TV, they need to find ways to innovate from the standard streaming platform.
The Overwatch league all-access pass is an excellent example of this. The opportunity to watch multiple streams and see from each player’s POV is a great way to keep people on your platform.
In your opinion, what makes this a good fit for the AVGL?
The best part about all of this is, AVGL can connect with more people and see more views that can help expand their brand into something bigger. This acquisition allows AVGL to market themselves within the esports scene by using an already established platform.
